Card Meanings

The Tarot Tower in Love

“Thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightening…”

The Tower energies strike suddenly and the impact often feels devastating. What we thought we had is gone in an instant and we are stood in a heap of rubble with no clue what to do next.

To the relationship, The Tower often means a break-up out of the blue but it really does depend largely on surrounding cards. Yes, together with for instance the 10 of Swords or the 10 of Wands, it signifies the ending of a relationship… but together with the Ace of Cup it means being hit by the arrows of Cupid… again, out of the blue.

What the Tower always brings is the need to go back to the beginning and start over. You realise that you have been building something that couldn’t last – much like the Tower of Babel in the Bible. The force of lightning comes from your Higher Self, clearing the way for a creating something more in alignment with Divine Will.

Because of the association with the Planet Mars, The Tower can also signify the male libido, aggression and any physical condition associated with fluctuations of testosterone levels. Ill dignified, erectile dysfunction could be an issue, as could a low sperm count or premature ejaculation.

Together with the 3 of Cups, you’re in for some amazing sex. Together with The Devil, it could turn into a bit of a marathon affair where one of you needs to say ‘enough’ or agree on some kind of ‘safe word’ beforehand.

This is raw masculine force and vitality, so to a single lady it could mean that she needs to work on owning and integrating her male qualities in preparation for meeting the one.

Third chakra issues in general, and anger issues in particular, could be indicated when the Tower shows up in a reading. The Tower together with a Court Card can warn you of someone with low impulse control.

To a couple, it doesn’t have to mean the end of the relationship. Something earth-shattering could be happening regarding home, work or children which will also impact the relationship.

In general it could be said that The Tower energies cause rapid and sharp change but much like a good thunderstorm, it leaves the air fresh and clean, and easier to breathe.

  1. Great expression of a spectrum of the potential ways the Tower can resonate, bang, disintegrate, ring one’s bell in a variety of ways. You covered a lot of ground like a well put together Tower tapestry. Thanks for this blog, Lisa!

      • Of course =) I love Marcetti’s work and use the Legacy deck. While I have the Gilded Tarot and The Legacy deck, I have yet to see the full deck of the Tarot of Dreams…
        Blessings, G

    • The Gilded Tarot Royale is independently published and larger… much better than the Llewellyn edition, not ONLY because of the bling (gilt edges) but because Ciro put a lot of work into improving the images. The colours are stunning too. I’m crushing… can you tell? lol Will have to start using it more on here.

      • I know :) Have you seen / used the Legacy or seen the animated pictures he’s done with some of the cards?

  2. Hi Lisa, I have never read tarot cards or had a reading but interestingly towers sometimes appear in my artwork …I guess there’s perhaps an archetypal thing here where the meaning might be similar? Interesting!

  3. Thank you for this article. (Question for anyone who reads this website and articles, you don’t have to answer Lisa :D)

I have gotten the tower reversed next to the 3 of cups reversed for someone’s feelings. Does it mean the opposite for amazing sex? or could it be there is a blockage? We don’t really know each other personally, so maybe that’s why? Just wondering..thanks in advance :)

  4. Wow, great article, thank you Lisa for a pretty good explanation of the Tower card. So it could mean good or bad depending on the surrounding card. I just have a question, I just did a reading for myself and I got a Ten of pentacles and the outcome card is the Tower. I notice that you said in your article, the two tens, the ten of wands or Ten of swords plus the towers would mean ending or breaking up. How about the ten of pentacles plus the Tower? I got confuse because the Ten of Pentacle is usually a positive card while the Tower is usually a fairly negative one for relationships. I hope you can clear up this confusion. Thanks for the very informative site.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, feedback and questions. Please note that, while I'm happy to answer questions about individual cards, I don't interpret spreads. I get several requests every day about interpreting DIY readings based on my spreads. Even if I had the time, I don’t think it would be a wise investment of my time to ‘read on readings’ – A reading is done in synergy between the cards, the question and the reader… in the MOMENT.
