The Tarot 6’s in Love

The Number 6 Tarot of the Hidden Realm

The two Majors (Lovers and The Devil) and four Minors that carry the 6 vibration    Tarot of the Hidden Realm

The number 6 stands for centredness, fullness, union, truth, harmony, equilibrium, beauty, peace, integration, reconciliation and balance.

In love and relationship readings, the positive aspects are generally very positive by virtue of the correspondence to the sphere of beauty and splendour on the Tree of Life. This is a harmonious energy but it also indicates transience, not of love – which is eternal – but of its expressions. It is in love’s nature to grow and the growth process invariably means moving from harmony to a state of being outside one’s comfort zone.. In other words, enjoy it while it lasts!

6 of Wands. Although this card, in its negative aspect, can indicate the kind of pride that goes before fall and leads to untold pain and suffering in a relationship, it usually means great mutual enjoyment and lots of fun. This 6 corresponds to Jupiter in Leo so, as a couple, you are likely to want to have a good time. You could be planning a great night out, a weekend get-away or even a holiday abroad.

The good times are rolling and sexual chemistry is high. This is definitely one of the cards that indicates that the sap is rising. Make sure that you wear clothes that can handle a bit of rough undressing and doesn’t have too many complicated buttons.

Reversed or ill-dignified, this card could indicate that pride is getting in the way of straight-forward communication. One or both of you could be engaged in psychological patterns of withholding and choosing to shut your hearts down. However, it can also mean that one of you is suffering with low self-esteem after having been demoted or even laid off at work, which in turn is affecting the relationship. Try to be understanding of your partner if this is the case and don’t take it personally!

To a single person, the 6 of Wands could simply mean that your confidence is high and that you’re enjoying life. Perhaps you have recently been promoted or received other kind of recognition at work. Either way, your confidence levels are currently boosting your pulling power (unless the card is reversed, of course, which could indicate that you need to change your self-talk.)

6 of Cups. The 6 of Cups is the soul mate card in the deck since it signifies an emotional bond that survives death. You can read about the significance of this card in soul mate readings and in combination with other cards HERE.

It’s usually a sign of great emotional intimacy in the relationship. If it shows up reversed, it could be a sign that you are hankering after a past love. Ill-dignified it could be a sign that you two are star-crossed lovers.

To a single person it could indicate that they long for and/or are about the meet their soul mate. Surrounding cards will tell you which. More love card combinations can be found HERE.

The 6 of Cups brings the qualities of ecstasy and intoxication to the bedroom. Be careful if this card shows up when you’re just looking for ‘a good time.’ You could get hooked!

6 of Sword. For a couple, this card is usually and indication that you give each other a lot of intellectual freedom and that you are able to tolerate the other person’s views even if you don’t agree with them. You find the company of your partner intellectually stimulating and you value bonding through the mind.

Reversed or ill-dignified, this card could indicate intolerance and narrow-mindedness which is likely to cause a relationship break-down. Respect is quickly eroded without tolerance and there can be no love without respect.

To a single person, this card could indicate that they could meet someone on an online forum where they bond over a hobby or area of interest. It could also indicate that they need to be mindful of intellectual compatibility in a future partner – this is extra important to people with a lot of Air in their birth charts. The Air signs are Aquarius, Gemini and Libra.

Sexually, the 6 of Swords is daring you to broaden your horizons and try something new. Dare to experiment! It’s OK to explore different techniques if you feel safe to do so and remember that in the end, the love you share is more important than physical satisfaction.

6 of Coins/Pentacles. To someone already in a relationship, this card means that you and your partner are getting along very well. You are generous toward each other and want what’s best for the other person. Use this happy time and the strength of the current state of affairs to laid solid foundations for the future. If you, as a couple, are thinking about starting a family business, this card is a solid ‘yes’ from the Universe.

Reversed or ill-dignified, this card could mean that someone is taking advantage of you. A prenup could be a good idea if you still feel the need to walk them down the aisle.

To a single person, this card could indicate getting involved in charity work for possibly meeting someone new.

On a more intimate note, since this card corresponds to the Moon in Taurus (where it is exalted), you have a very good chance to bond emotionally through sensual pleasure under the auspice of this card.

  1. Here’s my question, Lisa. Is it possible to have a card meaning that’s always specific to me? I HATE the 6 of pentacles (Rider Waite) and here’s why. Anytime I’ve done a reading for myself, the 6 of pentacles ALWAYS means someone has been chosen over me, whether in a love, job or other reading. It certainly seems to fit the picture (though not the general meaning) … needless to say, every time this card pops up I roll my eyes and groan.

    • Yes, it is possible. But I would have to say your meaning is close to something else I have noticed about the 6 of Pentacles and that is that this card tends to show up in readings where someone feels that the situation isn’t fair – typically when they have given a lot and are not getting a lot (or anything) back. The 6 of Pentacles helps us make sure that we don’t give too much of ourselves to other people and situations. We need to pause and make sure that we get back in equal measure. Perhaps this is what the 6 of Pentacles is here to teach you; Slow down and make sure you get back as much as you give before you invest a lot of time and energy (or money) in a situation. Then, at least, if someone gets to reap the rewards, you won’t feel as depleted.

      • That’s so interesting. Looking back at the relationships where this card continued to appear, I DID feel like I was giving 110 percent and getting nothing in return. I kept giving more hoping it would turn the tide. It never occurred to me to consider that the card was warning me that it wasn’t an even exchange of energy. Now I feel so much better about the card … next time I see it, I’ll recognize it as an early warning and act quicker to rectify the situation. Too bad I didn’t know this sooner. Thank for your perspective!

        • Glad this made sense to you and that you find the 6 of Pentacles more useful now :) All cards are signposts on the journey to wholeness, and the ones we find difficult usually point to areas that need more work. Blessings

  2. I did a reading for myself recently about my love where the 6 of swords, wands and pentacles appeared… as well as the shaman and the devil. Is there a significance to the three 6s appearing?

  3. I did a reading for myself, asking what is in store for me in the area of love, before Christmas. I want to write this rather long post to ask your thoughts but also because perhaps in the end it wil serve to help others in Tarot(?). I will gladly return in later months and update you and readers.

I am almost 50 years old, never-married, have a wonderful and large immediate & extended family that I love and who love me. I take care of my life and daily responsibilities, am very well-educated, beautiful and youthful looking (people tell me I look about 30 years old as I have no wrinkles, no grey hair and my face has not changed. I am also now a runner and yoga enthusiast and in better physical shape than at 25), and am professionally accomplished. I am world-traveled. I am known for being a great humanitarian, a great hostess and social, generous, and am generally beloved. I have been checked medically and also though I am almost 50, I am in great shape internally, still have regular menstrual periods and ovuations with a history of late in life pregnancies in my family. I have had sex 2 times (sadly), have had one 3-month relationship (my first) when I was 37 and most recently have had a painful bief relationship with someone that I fell in love with and who also had feelings for me…but we have not been able to reconcile, despite my wanting to do so. I would like to reconcile, marry and try to have a child; but I also am 100% open to being with and marrying another man because of my age. I am not desperate. I have lived a full life alone, but I am understandably lonely. I want to spend the last half of my life with someone. I beleive human being need intimate human connection.

I am explaining all this because I would like your insight after mine:

I asked “What is in store for me in the area of love, before Christmas 2012?” I got The Hermit, 6 of Swords and The Empress. I interpret this to mean that in the past I have been alone and hermited away. In the present I am moving out into the open, and away from the past pain and hurt with love and problems, expecially mentally. In the future, the near future I asked about, I am going to have sexual satisfaction, be a wife and pregnant/a mother.

I then asked, “Is it my calling to me a (miracle) mother?” I got 2 of Swords, Judgement and 6 of Cups. I interpreted this as cutting through the confusion and getting clarity on my situation as a mother (and I should say in the recent past I also had a surgery that cleared out a possible conception/implantation problem), a life-changing relationship that involves sex/passion/karma and finally a past connection that will bring me emotional happiness in a relationship that enables me to be relaxed and carefree as in childhood.

I also asked “Will X and I reconcile our relationship?” I got the King of Swords, 10 of Pentacles, and the 6 of Cups. X is an Aquarius. He also is from a wealthy family and our marriage would bring us both great material comfort. His family wants him to reconcile and marry me…and finally again I interpret 6 of Cups here to be that I will get great emotional happiness with a past connection involved.

When I did the 12-month Conception/Pregnancy Reading Spread to see if I will get pregnant in the next 12 motnhs starting with December 2012, it started with the wishes of the 7 of cups (Dec), and included 3 of Pentacles (March), The Sun (April), Justice (May), 10 of Cups (June), The Fool (July) The World (Sept) the Ace of Cup (Oct). I interpret that there IS something positive about a pregnancy of a child in the next year, despite my age.

Do you think I have mistaken this reading? Have I misinterpreted form your objective view? Have you ever heard of a “miracle” cases like mine in terms of relationships and pregnancy? Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

    • Hi Donna… What can I say, anything is possible. The cards look positive and it’s good that you still have hope. If having children is a priority, I can understand you not wanting to wait around for your ex to reconcile. Not sure about this 12 month pregnancy spread you mentioned. Could you tell me where you got this spread from please because you are not the first person to refer to it on here and it is difficult for me to comment on someone else’s spread when I don’t know how it is meant to be read.

Yes, I would be very interested to have you report back on this!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, feedback and questions.
